Our Story

My Picture, My Story was launched in March 2016 with our first workshop in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. The main goal of this workshop is to empower the women and to give them a voice to speak.
Global news is full of bad stories and the people are fed up with it. The same suffering every day and no sign of a silver lining on the horizon. But why are they only reporting about suffering? Is disaster the only thing that’s keeping us interested?
In every dark place, there’s still a sliver of hope. No matter how horrible your situation is, there’s always something worth living for. But sadly, we hardly ever focus on that.
The people all around the world need hope, they need a new perspective.
This is what My Picture, My Story is trying to do with this website. We teach women how to tell their own stories and document their life. We let them speak and let them show us their perspective on war. How they survive and what makes them hold on to life.

Photography allows us to capture a moment – to raise our voices in a simple way. We can document our life and show it to the world. The participants of the project attend a workshop for three months. They learn how to use the camera and how to write a story. In the end, they should be able to work as a new journalist for their own community.
